Location: Alifakovac district, Sarajevo

The project deals with the interpretation of traditional ways of building in Sarajevo. The traditional principles of Bosnian architecture and the city, researched in 1930 by Slovenian architect Dušan Grabrijan, have been “lost” over time.

Through the project, the traditional principles of the Bosnian architecture are meant to be interpreted in a new and modern way at a selected site along the Miljacka river, more precisely on the edge of the Alifakovac mahalla.

The project consists of nine residential units, which consist of introvert basements and extrovert upper floors. The ground floor is a system of public and semi-public atriums that lead the user to the housing units by increasing the “degree of intimacy”. An important element of the housing units are the different orientations of the living spaces and the connection of each room with the atriums.
