­­The 16th Belgrade International Architecture Week is underway, organized by the Association of Architects of Belgrade and Belgrade Cultural Centre.

The theme of this year’s BINA is the Belgrade school of housing with the aim of presenting quality architectural achievements in Belgrade and the region, referring to the contribution of lcal architects regarding modern housing. The event programme is divided into four parts – exhibitions, lectures, accompanying events and thematic walks.

Alongside the aforementioned “Belgrade School of Housing” exhibition, five additional exhibitions were opened during the event. “Cerak_40 Years Later” authored and curated by Milenija Marušić is placed within window displays of the Belgrade Cultural Centre on the Republic Square. In 2019, the Cerak-Vinogradi neighbourhood received the status and protection as cultural heritage, and was included in the contemporary architecture collection of MOMA in New York.

The exhibition “Architectural and Urban Competitions and Architectural Awards 2020-21”, organized by the Belgrade Association of Architects, was aslo opened at Belgrade Cultural Centre.

Current works of young architectural studios MAIN Architects and STUDIO OBE from Belgrade were presented at the exhibition “Bring Your Project” at the BINA pavilion, at the Graphic Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

The exhibition entitled “Enough is Enough” by BETA Biennale from Timișoara, which opened at the Kolektiv Gallery, presents a series of local and international projects that expressing a responsible attitude towards the planet, the environment and society.

The “Piranesi Award” exhibition, opened at the Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts, presents the Piran Days of Architecture in Slovenia and a national selection of the best works built in the last two years in ten Central European countries. Part of the accompanying programme are talks with the authors of the exhibitions, as well as guided tours by the authors themselves.

Traditionally, the programme includes educational workshops for the younger audience, high school and university students, as well as any interested citizens, organized this year in cooperation with prof. Aleksandar Stupar and Predrag Jovanović. In addition, lectures titled “Contemporary Architecture” and “Women in Architecture” will be held by Milena Zindović. The traditional “Architects, designers, practitioners” seminar will also take place, with the intent of ​​connecting architectural practice and professional companies and consisting of a presentation of projects by young architects and a film programme.

BINA themed walks touring the architecture of Belgrade are intended for wider audiences. An architectural excursion to Subotica is also planned for this year.
