Modernist architectural heritage is often taken for granted, as the development and application of new technologies and the brutal functionality of modernist urbanism and architecture have created new forms of aesthetic expression in these disciplines.
The Modernist Map of Zenica is a project that aims to digitize, map, valorize and present the modernist architectural heritage of the city, mostly built during the socialist period in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Most critics consider Zenica a well-planned city by socialist standards and unique in its specifics. By mapping buildings that embody the spirit of modernism, he seeks to create a digital trace of the iconic ideology in architecture and urbanism that shaped the silhouette and social context of today’s Zenica.
This virtual map is a collection of the most significant and dominant buildings from that period.
The content of the map consists of locations, photographs and descriptions of the buildings, including basic information and a critical review of their architectural and urban features.
The main goal of the project is not only to point out the architectural values of modernist buildings that should soon become cultural heritage but also to serve as a unique platform through which new generations, architects, designers or socialist enthusiasts can learn more about the modernist heritage of this city.
they want to explore the socialist principles of aesthetics and functionality in architecture and urbanism.
